From reception agency to billion-budget megasystem: the taxpayer bill behind asylum reception

The asylum reception debate is often about beds, municipalities and humanitarian duty. The accounts show a second layer: public billions. The Dutch COA recorded 3.712 billion euros in income in 2025 and exactly the same amount in expenditure, had 8,697 workers at year-end and operated 362 locations. That money does not come from a market. It comes almost entirely from collective budgets. In the end it is tax and contribution money raised by citizens and companies.

Not ethnicity, but nationality: official figures reveal a hard divide in European crime data

Anyone asking for crime and ethnicity in Europe rarely gets one clean table. Official statistics usually measure nationality, citizenship, country of birth, parents or residence status. MOZOM therefore used the hard comparable layer that does exist: Eurostat 2024, supplemented with national sources. The outcome is uncomfortable for the reassuring story. Non-citizens and some origin groups are strongly overrepresented in many countries. But the figures do not prove a racial cause and do not support a simple claim that all or nearly all crime is committed by outsiders.

"Vote bank" or new electorate: the political arithmetic behind mass immigration

The Dutch term "stemvee" is ugly; in English the closer political idea is a "vote bank" or captive electorate. It says more about distrust than about people themselves. Yet the question underneath is not small. If Europe receives, regularises, employs, locally enfranchises or eventually naturalises hundreds of thousands of people, it changes more than labour markets and reception pressure. Over time, it changes the electorate. The question is therefore not simply whether there is a secret plan. The better question is which political incentive emerges when migration policy, ageing, media framing and voting rights touch each other.

Ireland no longer has a simple asylum story. The official IPAS figures show a reception system that grew from more than 7,000 residents to more than 33,000 residents in a few years. At the same time, the debate on the streets became heated: hotels, vacant buildings and emergency locations became political focal points, with protests, attacks and fires around locations. The question is therefore not only how many people request protection, but why the Irish state retained so little social support for the way it organized shelter.
