The EU-Brussels CREEP: child protection or mass surveillance through the back door?
Chat Control sounds like child protection, but the core question is bigger than that one goal. The European Union is working on rules against online child sexual abuse, but at the same time an infrastructure is being created in which private communications can be scanned, reported and classified. The Brussels CREEP is exactly there: a measure starts with CSAM, but the same technical port can later also be requested for terrorism, hate speech, extremism, disinformation, copyright, prohibited trade or political security labels. That's not proof that any of this will happen tomorrow. It is the power question that must be asked now, before the infrastructure becomes normal.
