July 1 rules, purchasing power or cost shifting?

From July 1, it is not one large file that will change for Dutch households, but a whole row of small rules at the same time. That is precisely why the framing is interesting. You can see it as a purchasing power correction, because the minimum wage, state pension and benefits also increase. You can also read it as a cost shift, because rent, energy, package costs and services simultaneously press on the other side of the household budget.

MOZOM is angry: EU builds parcel wall and citizens pay

MOZOM is angry because this policy feels like a stab in the back to ordinary consumers. The European Union does not say: you can no longer buy cheaply outside Europe. But it does make that choice more expensive, more cumbersome and less attractive. That is not an open ban, but it is a price wall. And that wall is not paid for by the policymakers in Brussels, but by the citizen who orders a few cheap things. Extra harsh: such measures are often first introduced in technical EU language and only later widely felt by people who suddenly have to pay more at the checkout or at the door.
